Inappropriate Social Media
#Rapeface, a hash tag
that is use to show someone “awkward face,” but is it really? If you make a search
for this hashtag on any social media like Twitter, Facebook, Vine,
etc. You will probably find many peoples
with awkwardly looking face or kind of funny looking. Yet, this has become a
slang term for awkward faces. By definition, rape means is when a person is
forced into sex. Unfortunately, it real does happen. That why there are
organizations like Canadian Women’s Foundation. This organization works towards
empowering women and girls out of poverty and becoming more confidence. They also try to prevent women and girls from
getting raped because each girl that is born in this world has a 50% chance of
being physically or sexually abused.
Since, rape is such a big
problem that it has to have millions of organization trying to stop it, why
would people take a picture of themselves and put the caption “#rapeface or
find it funny? The reason for this is probably that many people don’t see why
it is such a big deal, or they don’t understand what rape is or its effect, but
they just find it really funny to do. This probably started when a person wanting
to be funny by putting their “awkward face” on like twitter and write
#rapeface. People probably thought it was funny as well, and took it as a joke;
so they started doing it and it caught on.
In
conclusion, #rapeface probably started as a joke because people just wanted to
put their awkward face on social media. The
person who made it probably didn't think what it meant or its effect on rape
victims? At least the trend stopped. I didn't even know what it was until now?
